Alphabet's President of Global Affairs and Chief Legal Officer rebuts Europe's concerns about U.S.-led artificial intelligence.

PANews October 20 news: Kent Walker, President of Global Affairs and Chief Legal Officer of Google parent company Alphabet, said in an interview with the UK's Financial Times: "Look at the AI field now, the situation is astonishing... it is hard to imagine a more fiercely competitive market environment than this." Walker noted that the companies participating in the competition include major tech companies such as Nvidia, Meta, and SpaceX, U.S. AI labs OpenAI and Anthropic, France's Mistral, as well as "another six or seven or even a dozen Chinese companies." He said: "What will this lead to? Prices are falling at an astonishing rate, and technological capabilities are also improving at an astonishing rate." European Competition Commissioner Teresa Ribera is stepping up scrutiny of the rapidly developing AI industry. EU officials are concerned that the existing dominance of U.S. tech giants may give them an unfair competitive advantage in the AI market, which is expected to become an important force supporting the EU economy.
