Anthropic announces the establishment of a public interest fund, pledging 5% of its shares for public benefit.

PANews October 19 news: According to an official announcement from Anthropic, the company will contribute a portion of its shares to a newly established Anthropic Public Benefit Fund. Subject to shareholder approval, it will initially commit 5% of its shares today; thereafter, each time the company's valuation grows by 50% relative to a set baseline, the board of directors may, at its discretion, add another 2%. The fund is established as a wholly owned LLC rather than a charitable structure such as a 501(c)(3), and the equity it holds will not be used for lobbying or political donations in any country. Anthropic stated that the fund will be used for large-scale donations to traditional nonprofit organizations, direct payments to specific populations, and other purposes, with one focus being to address the labor market impact brought by AI (the company has previously invested $200 million for this purpose).
