OpenAI may restart the Sora video model and has begun partnership talks with AI companies.

PANews October 12 news, according to The Information, OpenAI is exploring the possibility of relaunching the Sora video generation model and is in talks with a stealth startup focused on AI video technology for filmmaking.

The report says OpenAI had previously paused development of the Sora model and its accompanying TikTok-like video app as part of a plan to cut high-server-consumption "side projects." Meanwhile, competitors such as xAI and Google continue to push forward with AI video generation technology.

Sources say a startup currently developing AI video tools for the filmmaking sector may partner with OpenAI to help bring Sora-related technology back to market.

After its release in 2024, Sora attracted widespread attention for its text-to-video capabilities and sparked extensive exploration of AI-generated video applications. If this potential collaboration moves forward, it could mean OpenAI is once again increasing its investment in the AI video generation field.
