Solana plans to reduce its target block time from 250 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds, increasing block production to 5 blocks per second.

PANews October 9 news, according to CoinDesk, Solana plans to reduce the target block time from 250 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds on Friday at epoch 1053, completing a series of upgrades since August to shorten block times. This upgrade will enable the network to produce five block opportunities per second, which is expected to accelerate transaction update speeds; at the same time, to keep overall processing capacity roughly unchanged, the compute limit per block will also be reduced accordingly. Faster block production helps reduce transaction latency and arbitrage attacks that exploit timing differences in transactions, but it also increases validators' voting demands, puts pressure on network connectivity, and shortens the effective time window for transactions.
