SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son issues rare warning on AI security issues

BlockBeats news, on October 4, SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son is one of the ardent believers in AI, but he said that as machines rapidly gain more capabilities, even he is beginning to worry about security risks.

Son Masayoshi said at a side event of the "Science and Technology in Society" forum held in Kyoto on Sunday that the exponential surge in AI capabilities made it necessary for countries to build mutual trust in order to jointly master this technology. He spoke on stage with White House science and technology policy adviser Michael Kratzios.

"We no longer have the luxury of humans fighting each other," Son said, adding that countries need to cooperate to control the larger threat posed by powerful AI models. He said superintelligence could become "super dangerous" if it fell into the wrong hands. It was a rare note of caution from Son, reflecting rising concerns after troubling security flaws emerged in AI models in recent months.
