Starting October 9th, free users of Google Gemini will only be able to use Flash-Lite

According to ChainCatcher news, IT House quoted information from the Google Gemini application help center as saying that starting from October 2026, when using a personal account to access the Gemini application, the model availability will change. Starting from October 9, 2026, free individual users of Gemini web and App will no longer provide access to complete Flash models and Pro models by default, and will be uniformly adjusted to smaller and lighter Flash-Lite models.

After the change takes effect, unsubscribed users can only use Flash-Lite, and cannot use Flash and Pro. The AI Plus plan, which works with Flash-Lite and Flash, will no longer provide access to the Pro model. Users subscribed to the plan will receive an email stating when the changes will take effect for them. Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro are still available to AI Pro and AI Ultra plan users.
