Approved for self-clearing, Coinbase obtains CFTC derivatives clearing organization qualifications

Odaily Planet Daily News The CFTC has approved Coinbase to become a derivatives clearing organization, which applies to fully collateralized futures, futures options and swaps. After approval, Coinbase can liquidate related derivatives on its own without third-party intervention; this approval does not certify any specific market, especially does not involve prediction markets.

Coinbase and Nodal Clear announced in June 2025 that they plan to launch futures cooperation with USDC as collateral, which is expected to be implemented. The CFTC did not disclose the scope of the underlying assets of the relevant derivatives and the types of liquidable swaps.
