Supabase acquires Turso: Let every Agent be able to easily open a database

Dongcha Beating AI News, Supabase announced the acquisition of database company Turso. Turso reimplements SQLite in Rust and makes it a cloud database that can be created in large quantities and on demand. Supabase plans to use it to serve AI Agents so that each Agent can quickly get an independent database.

This acquisition is aimed at the explosion in the number of databases brought by Agent. Supabase claims that more than 1 million databases are currently created every week, with about 70% of new databases coming from Agent or AI tools. Turso's architecture allows one server to manage millions of databases, load them when needed, and pause them when not in use. It is suitable for a large number of small Agent tasks that can be created at any time.

The two companies will not directly merge their products for the time being. Supabase continues to be developed around Postgres, Turso continues to work on SQLite, the existing database, API and workflow remain unchanged, and Turso Database will continue to be open source. The two parties will gradually integrate the products, allowing Turso to be used for small Agent tasks first, and then entering Supabase's Postgres system when the demand becomes larger.

Turso founder Glauber Costa will join Supabase and be responsible for Agent-related services. The acquisition amount was not disclosed.
