According to Foresight News, Grayscale issued an article stating that Bitcoin has returned about 225% in the past three years, but the increase is highly concentrated in a few trading days. Remove the five best performing days and returns drop to 95%; remove 10 days and it drops to 27%; removing 15 days results in an 11% loss. By comparison, the Nasdaq returned 109% over the same period and is less concentrated. Grayscale believes that for highly volatile assets such as Bitcoin, not investing in itself also constitutes an opportunity cost; since the best trading day is difficult to predict, long-term investors should avoid timing and maintain continuous exposure.
